[OSEN=박현민 기자] Hip-hop group EPIK HIGH and China’s top female singer Zhou Bichang topped a music chart in China with their collaborated “With You.” The song unveiled on China’s Youku and QQ Music on May 19 topped Youku’s New Song chart on May 23. It also ranked #1 on weekly chart of Weibo between May 16 and 22, while gaining popularity on QQ Music and Baidu Music charts by ranking between #2 and 3. Apart from this, the lyric video unveiled on Youku along with the song attracted 770,000 views on May 23 while recording 480,000 views for promotion video. The song “With You” is originally of EPIK HIGH’s, which was titled “FOOL” and was included in their “epilogue” album released in 2010. In the former version Bumkey featured in the chorus, but Zhou Bichang sings the part in English in the newest version.
“With You” is about feeling foolish of oneself for not being brave enough to approach a loved one and instead waiting to be approached. The lyrical beat that carries TABLO’s sentiment stands out, while Zhou Bichang’s unique voice adds different charms to the song from its original version. Zhou Bichang was the runner-up of a Chinese audition program “Super Girl Competition” aired in 2005, boasting a powerful voice. She still stands high in the music world, topping music sales record several times. Her album “Unlock” released in 2013 helped her become the “Most Popular Female Singer” and “Most Popular Singer” at Mengniu Music Awards and Music Pioneer Awards. EPIK HIGH and Zhou met at an event held in Shanghai, and their continued friendship led to the latest collaboration. Zhou visited Seoul in March to work on the collaboration. 2014. 5. 24. According to EPIK HIGH’s lable YG Entertainment on the 19 this month, EPIK HIGH releases song “WITH YOU (FOOL)” on China’s QQ Music, Youku, etc. Chinese female singer collaborated with EPIK HIGH for the song. “WITH YOU” is a remade Chinese version of “FOOL”, which was included in EPIK HIGH’s 2010 album “EPILOGUE”. Singer BUMKEY featured for the chorus of “FOOL” and Bibi Zhou sings the chorus part newly in English in “WITH YOU”. “WITH YOU” sings about a foolish self, who cannot get closer to a person he/she loves but just waits for the person to look at him/her. Sentimental beat made from EPIK HIGH member TABLO’s tender sensibility and poetic lyrics stand out in the song, and Bibi Zhou’s epicene and unique vocal adds another appeal different from the original version. Bibi Zhou made her debut in the music scene, as the runner-up of 2005 Super Girl Competition, which was a Chinese audition show. Her album “unlock” released last year enjoyed an explosive popularity, being selected as the best female singer and the most popular female singer by a variety of music charts in China. According to YG, EPIK HIGH and Bibi Zhou came to know each other at an event held in Shanghai, China, last year. An YG insider said, “The two were impressed by one another’s performance and promised to collaborate one day. Notably, Bibi Zhou was so much impressed by the song “FOOL” and said that she wanted to sing the song herself. EPIK HIGH also thought that the song would go well with Bibi Zhou’s unique vocal, so in March this year she visited Seoul to record the song with EPIK HIGH”. 2014. 5. 19. yg life Tablo will be making a comeback as a radio DJ. On April 12, the 2014 YG FAMILY CONCERT held in Japan’s Osaka Kyocera Dome ended in huge success, joined by 50,000 fans. The concert showcased YG artists including BIGBANG, 2NE1, EPIK HIGH, LEEHI, WINNER and WIN’s TEAM B. 2NE1 opened the concert with their dynamic “CRUSH.” It was followed by their debut song “FIRE” and then the title song of the 2nd full album “COME BACK HOME,” and moved on to sing “GOTTA BE YOU.” The baton was then handed to the newbie group WINNER. They performed the Japanese version of “GO UP” and their own version of 2NE1’s “MISSING YOU,” firing up the fans. EPIK HIGH, who was next on stage, left a powerful impression on the local fans by singing “FLY,” “LOVE LOVE LOVE,” and “DON’T HATE ME.” When BIGBANG appeared on stage, the concert hall was filled with gold color. The members who were joined by 770,000 fans at their Japan’s 6 largest Dome Tour from last year to early this year, looked experienced in communicating with the local fans. They showcased their hit songs like “HARU HARU,” “BLUE,” and “FANTASTIC BABY.” Performing in Japan for the first time, LEEHI caught the attention of the fans by “ROSE” and “1,2,3,4”. But the highlight of the concert was the collaboration performances of YG artists. Each work was unique, more than enough to leave the audience in awe. WINNER and WIN’s TEAM B performed “JUST ANOTHER BOY” together, which was the final mission of the survival program WHO IS NEXT: WIN. G-DRAGON and CL performed “THE BADDEST MALE” and “MTBD” while BIGBANG’s T.O.P, WINNER’s SONG MIN HO and 2NE1’s DARA fired up the stage with a collaborated “DOOM DADA.” The concert that showcased 40 songs in total gave a dynamic finale with YG’s biggest hit songs including PSY’s “GANGNAM STYLE,” 2NE1’s “GO AWAY” and BIGBANG’s “FANTASTIC BABY.” The “2014 YG FAMILY CONCERT” will be held again on April 13 at Osaka Kyocera Dome, and will be followed by Tokyo Dome on May 3 and 4. It will expand to Korea, China and other Asian regions, and the concert venues will be announced soon. 2014. 4. 13. The agency announced on April 11 that TEAM B will be joining YG FAMILY’s Japan concerts that are to be held on April 12 and 13 at Osaka Kyocera Dome. TEAM B has been polishing their musical talents as trainees since losing by a few points to A TEAM on YG’s survival program “WIN: WHO IS NEXT.” The decision is deemed quite rare in the history of South Korean pop music, as TEAM B will be performing at YG FAMILY’s Japan Dome Tour that will attract 40,000 fans per concert—all of this taking place even before making an official debut. The reason for YG’s urgently made decision is that the survival program “WIN” drew high popularity from Japanese fans who take up a big portion of YG fans. WINNER, who won the show, performed in front of 700,000 fans when they appeared as guests for BIGBANG’s Japan Dome Tour. The upcoming event will be the first official one for TEAM B. YG commented, “Since TEAM B does not have a debut song yet, he will collaborate with other artists and of course, will work together with their former competitor WINNER—but as close friends this time.” YG FAMILY concert to be held for the first time in 3 years will be joined by 700,000 fans. Along with BIGBANG, EPIK HIGH and LEE HI, 2NE1 will be joining in the midst of their World Tour. As additional groups WINNER, whose debut is coming up, and TEAM B are included this time, the scale of the concert will be quite different to that of the concert 2 years ago. The areas where YG FAMILY concert will be held are to be announced soon as well. 2014. 4. 11. Originally posted by: YG Life There is no hip hop act quite like Epik High. Made up of MCs Tablo and Mithra Jin alongside DJ Tukutz, the trio have been shaking up the K-pop industry for more than a decade. With a unique rap-rock sound, Epike High came about organically instead of being placed together by a record label, like most K-pop acts.
"We're not the model K-pop musician," Tablo tells Fuse News host Liz Walaszczyk. "We didn't have a company, we didn't have a manager. We just got together to make music... the way we did it is very different and rare." Despite their humble beginnings, Epik High found chart success, helping them lead Korean hip hop's international expansion. The trio joined Far East Movement for a joint Stateside tour in 2009 and was the first South Korean act to hit No. 1 on U.S. iTunes' Hip Hop Albums chart with the 2010 LP Epilogue. Equally remarkable was the group's recovery after a hugely controversial scandal where Internet rumors about Tablo faking his degrees from Stanford got rabid public attention, with thousands calling for the rapper's takedown. "It kind of destroyed my life for two years," he reflects. "It was something the President of Korea had to speak on." While a bad scandal sometimes signals the end of a K-pop career in the conservative South Korea, Tablo and his bandmates recovered and ended up stronger than ever. They tell Fuse they plan on "doing crazy stuff" in the future. Like what? "Do shows naked!" Tablo decides. We can't wait, guys. On February 16’s broadcast of KBS’ Superman is Back, the Epik High members gathered at the studio to record their upcoming album tracks. Tablo commented that when he’s with his daughter Haru, he becomes unusually bright, but when he’s in the recording studio, everything becomes dark and serious. Tukutz also confirmed that he’s the same way when he’s with his baby son. Tablo mentioned that Psy told Tablo that in order to make good music, he needs to live as if he has nothing to lose, but now Tablo has a family that he’s becoming more afraid to make the kind of music he would like. He jokingly said, “Let’s do this. When Mithra becomes a dad, let’s disband.” Tukutz then added to much laughter, “At the moment when Mithra’s baby wails into the world, Epik High is over.” Meanwhile, Tablo and Tukutz both agreed that Mithra as a single man is the most annoying.
